1) MANY MATTRESS RETAILERS USE GIMMICKS SUCH AS “WE’LL BEAT ANY ADVERTISED PRICE OR YOUR MATTRESS IS FREE!!!” WHILE THIS MAY SOUND GREAT, SADLY THE REASON THESE DEALERS CAN MAKE THIS CLAIM IS BECAUSE THEY CHANGE THE MODEL NAMES FROM THOSE PROVIDED BY THE MANUFACTURERS FOR THEIR ADVERTISING. THIS ENSURES THAT YOU WILL NOT FIND AN ADVERTISEMENT WITH THE IDENTICAL MAKE AND MODEL THAT THEY ADVERTISE. THESE RETAILERS USE THESE “TOOLS” IN ORDER TO DRAW YOU INTO THEIR STORE & PRESSURE YOU INTO PURCHASING THE MATTRESS THEY WANT YOU TO BUY…….RARELY HELPING YOU FIND THE MATTRESS YOU WANT FOR THE PRICE YOU WANT TO PAY. WITH OVER A THIRD OF YOUR LIFE SPENT IN YOUR BED, PREMIUM MATTRESS OUTLET NEVER PLAYS GAMES WITH YOUR SLEEP.

2) A FAIR SHARE OF MATTRESS RETAILERS OFFER POORLY MADE BED SETS WITH POOR QUALITY MATERIALS THAT ARE IMPORTED FROM COUNTRIES LIKE CHINA SO THAT THEY CAN ADVERTISE PRICES THAT SOUND ATTRACTIVE TO CUSTOMERS. BUT WHEN THE CUSTOMER GETS TO THE STORE, THEY FIND THEMSELVES BEING UPSOLD TO A MORE EXPENSIVE BED OR END UP SPENDING UP TO THREE TIMES AS MUCH ON REPLACEMENT MATTRESSES OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS, SPENDING MUCH MORE THAN THEY WOULD HAVE WHEN ASSISTED AND GUIDED TO A QUALITY MATTRESS IN THEIR BUDGET

3) SADLY, MANY RETAILERS GO THROUGH SALES STAFF LIKE USED CARD DEALERS DO. THIS USUALLY LEADS TO UNPREPARED, INEXPERIENCED SALES REPRESENTATIVES STANDING OVER YOU AND ATTEMPTING TO PUSH YOU INTO AN EXPENSIVE BED THAT HELPS THEIR SALES NUMBERS….THIS “HELP” NEVER SEEMS TO STRETCH TO YOUR SLEEP NEEDS THOUGH. THAT IS WHY WE DON’T “SELL” YOU A MATTRESS. WITH OVER 37 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE COMBINED IN EVERY ASPECT OF THE MATTRESS BUSINESS, RICK & SKIP WILL ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS AND ADDRESS YOUR SLEEP NEEDS.

4) A CUSTOM BUILT MATTRESS MAY SOUND APPEALING, UNTIL YOU DISCOVER WHAT THOUSANDS OF OTHER SLEEPERS ALREADY KNOW. THESE MATTRESSES ARE OFTEN NOT ASSEMBLED AS WELL OR MAY EVEN ON OCCASSION NOT BE MADE COMPLETELY WITH THE KINDS OF HIGH QUALITY MATERIALS USED BY QUALITY MATTRESS BRANDS. SUBSEQUENTLY, YOU MAY BE FINDING YOURSELF REPLACING YOUR MATTRESS MUCH SOONER THAN YOU SHOULD HAVE TO.

5) THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SALE IN THIS INDUSTRY.
LET US REPEAT…
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SALE IN THE MATTRESS INDUSTRY!
IN ORDER FOR ANY RETAILER TO HAVE A SALE, THEY HAVE TO RECEIVE LOWER PRICING THAN THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NORMALLY OFFER. BUT CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENTS BETWEEN THE MANUFACTURERS AND THE DEALERS PREVENTS THIS FROM HAPPENING BECAUSE IF A MANUFACTURER GIVES A PRICE BREAK TO ONE RETAILER, THE MANUFACTURER MUST THEN OFFER THE SAME BREAK TO EVERY OTHER RETAILER. WHEN YOU SEE A RETAILER HAVING A “SALE”, THIS IS USUALLY EITHER THE SELLER TAKING A LOSS ON A BED MODEL TO GET PEOPLE IN THE DOOR AND PUSHING THEM INTO ANOTHER BED ONCE THEY ARE IN THE STORE, OR WORSE YET, MARKING UP THEIR BASE PRICE TEMPORARILY AND THEN DEDUCTING THE INCREASE FOR THEIR “SALE”….LEAVING YOU PAYING THE SAME PRICE FOR YOUR BED THAT YOU WOULD HAVE PAID IN THE FIRST PLACE.

A COLLECTION OF THE MOST COMMON CONCERNS

CUSTOMERS HAVE ABOUT BUYING A MATTRESS,

WHAT TO LOOK FOR, AND HOW PICK WHAT YOU WANT TO SLEEP ON

Q: “What’s the difference in size between a “double” (full size) bed and a queen?”
A: Answer: Full size = 54” X 74” & Queen size = 60” X 80”

Q: “What’s the difference in size between an Eastern King (King) and a California King?”
A: Eastern King = 76” X 80” & California King 72” X 84”

Q: “Which is better for you, a hard or soft bed?”
A: Years ago it was thought that if you wanted a bed with firm support you had to have a very hard bed to get that kind of support. When someone asks this kind of question of us we will ask, “When you say firm do you mean support or do you mean hard like the floor?” We then go on to explain that today because of the technology involved in the innerspring industry the support comes from the steel in the innerspring of the mattress, and the firmness of the foundation; and that the upholstery layers now have the job of providing you with the comfort your body needs for a really deep sleep. A Euro-top or a Pillow Top mattress can provide just as much support as a Luxury Firm mattress can, and an Extra Firm mattress may still be a good choice for some people; but try them all as we have found that your body will tell you which type of upholstery on which it will be most comfortable.

Q: “How many coils does this bed have?” (We love this one!)
Answer: Here is where you can learn the heart and soul of the mattress industry! The value of a mattress innerspring is determined by three major components – the type of coil, the number of coils and the gauge or thickness of the wire. Each element combines in a direct relationship with the other two elements to make a premium innerspring. Generally speaking, if you find a mattress with a high coil count (500+) it will also have thinner wire and be a very small (in diameter) coil. At the other end of the mattress spectrum a low coil count (300+) will have a thicker wire and a much larger coil.
This statement is slightly over simplified in that other factors will also play a role in the value of a coil – such as whether it is tempered or just hardened, and the height of a coil will have an effect on it as well as the number of turns in the height of that coil! These factors all combine to make an innerspring unit that is in a sleep set you are considering. Now you see the importance of having someone to correctly explain each of these features to you and how each innerspring will respond to your support needs!

Q: “I keep hearing about “latex” mattresses. What are they? Are they as good as innerspring sets?”
A: Latex mattress sets have been enjoyed by customers who want the best comfort and the best support for many, many years. Latex is really a specifically designed sleeping surface made from rubber. The rubber is specially prepared and washed to create a series of layers made from rubber in the form of a normal mattress. Most people who sleep on latex mattresses would prefer to sleep on nothing else! One of the best kept secrets about latex mattresses is they will generally last longer than any other type of mattress!
Latex is also used by the mattress industry as an upholstery layer to ad a great deal of comfort to higher end innerspring sleep sets. Latex will also add support to an innerspring sleep set that no other upholstery can add! Latex is defiantly a quality sleep set or upholstery layer!

Q: “I have a box spring already. Can I just buy a mattress?”
A: Yes! You can buy a mattress alone. However, when you indicate you will be putting it on a box spring you already own it is important that we ask how old the box spring is, what was wrong with the mattress you are replacing, and if possible what brand name it was. Box Springs are a very important part of your sleep set. They are made to work with your mattress. “Box Springs” are not as commonly used today as they were fifteen or more years ago. Today most sleep sets will use some form of “foundation” – we call them foundations because there are no longer springs in them. Most mattresses made today require a very firm non resilient foundation to provide the best support and comfort.
The fact is that foundations (box springs), like mattresses, have a given life expectancy and a good rule of thumb is that a mattress generally won’t go bad until the foundation does. It would be a shame if you put your new mattress on an old foundation (box springs) that wasn’t able to provide proper support for the mattress; allowing it to stretch the upholstery out of shape and make the mattress so uncomfortable you could no longer enjoy it!

Q: “Many of the mattress sets are so thick they make my headboard disappear. Is there anyway to get my headboard back?” “This set of bedding is so tall I’d have trouble getting in and out of bed, what can be done?”
A: The styling for premium mattresses has run toward thicker mattresses and foundations. This can create a problem for some customers who want or need lower height sleep sets, but really like the feel and comfort they have found on a thicker set. For the most part, mattress manufactures offer a low profile foundation (box spring) that is made to match the needs of each type of mattress. These low profile foundations will lower the height of the set approximately 3-4 inches. Most bed frame manufactures offer a low profile bed frame which will lower the height of the set approximately 3 inches. And yes, they can be used together so the height of your sleep set could be lowered by approximately 6-7 inches!

Q: I want to put this new sleep set in my new bed (headboard/footboard). Is that okay for this sleep set?
A: Yes, as long as the queen or king set has proper center support. All the bed frames we sell or supply with the queen or king size mattress sets we sell have center support. This means that the center of the set has proper support in the center (1 or 2 legs) so it won’t allow the center of the set to sag. If the center of the sleep set sags from lack of support, the upholstery stretches out of shape and becomes very uncomfortable. It also gives you body impressions which will make you very unhappy!
Your queen or king headboard/footboard and rails need the same type of support-center legs to provide the center of the sleep set with enough vertical support to keep the foundation (box springs) from sagging. We have seen this done with metal cross slats with legs and we have seen wooden legs attached to wood cross slats. We have even seen clever customers who have nailed a block of wood to their slats or put a stack of books to the proper height under their slats! Just make sure you have proper support for your sleep set so your sleep set can support you!

Q: “We need a bed for our guest bedroom, but we don’t want to spend a lot for a bed that won’t be used much. Do you have a good, cheap set?”
A: Most retailers will have a set or two that are a compromise between value and quality. The object is to find a guest bed on which you’ll be willing to spend enough money without being embarrassed to have your guests sleep on it! What we try to do is offer a new way to approach this problem. If you are sleeping on a full or queen size set that is a few years old; please consider putting your old set in your guest room and treat yourself to a new set. This may be the time to change from a full size set to a queen size set or a queen size set to the luxury of a king size set!

Q: “How do I take care of my new sleep set? (We don’t hear this one enough!)”
A: Every brand-name manufacturer supplies care instructions with their mattresses; any good sales person can tell you how often to turn your new sleep set. We go a lot further and basically give you a mini course on how to properly care for and feed your new mattress set! We make sure you know not only when to turn, but how to turn, why it is important to turn; even things to do to help keep your new set like new for as long as you own it!
